in Sweden 2004

2004.] Entomologisk

This is the 32nd consecutive annual report of interesting
findings of Macrolepidoptera in
Sweden.
Despite a rainier summer than most of the recent seasons several
remarkable findings
were made during 2004, and five species new for Sweden were
recorded.
In June a single specimen of Antonechloris
smaragdaria was found in the archipelago of Stockholm.
In July Hadena luteago was
found on the Baltic island Gotland and Polia
conspicua was
found close to the Finnish border in Norrbotten.
Two specimens of Agrotis crassa
werefound on the Baltic island Öland in August and six
specimens of Thaumetopoea processionea
were found in mid-august in southernmost Skåne.
Occasional findings were reported of presumptive migrants
as Agrius convolvuli, Macroglossum stellatarum, Nymphalis
xanthomelas, Rhodometra sacraria, Orthonama obstipata,
Eulithis pyropata, Colobochyla salicalis, Cucullia
fraudatrix, Cucullia artemisiae, Eucarta virgo,
Hydraecia ultima, Lacanobia splendens, Noctua
interposita, Cryptocalia chardinyi, Peridroma saucia,
Euproctis chrysorrhoea, Nycteola asiatica and Eilema
griseola.
Established populations in south-east Skåne has been
found of Minucia lunaris, Hoplodrina ambigua and Mythimna l-album.
The large number of species extending their range northwards
continued also during 2004
and new provincial records are compiled in the end of this report.
A new redlist was established in May 2005 and we would like
to draw attention to the need of better knowledge about the actual
distribution of many species to confirm suspected declines. Two
species; Mellicta britomartis
and Cucullia argentea appear
to be on the verge of extinction and in
need of immediate conservation measures.
The total number of species reported from Sweden is 1097,
of which nine are considered as introduced.
