First of all, go to the mIRC homepage at www.mirc.com and click Download mIRC.
Then select a server do download from. Whichever is closes to you is usually the best.
When you have downloaded the file, open it. It will look something like this. Just click Next.
If you feel like reading the license agreement, go ahead, and then click Yes if you agree.
Choose where you want to install it. The default folder is usually okay. Let the checkboxes be marked, and click Install.
Yes! Finally it's installed. Click the Launch mIRC checkbox and then click Finish to start mIRC.
Now we're almost done :-)
Type in your name, or just type in anything in the Full name field, and some email address in the email field. In the Nickname box you type in your preferred nickname (it will show up as your name/signature when you're in the chat). If that nickname isn't available, you'll need a backup one. That is what you type in the Alternative box.
Now click the Add button in the upper right corner.
Here you type in the as in the image.

Leave group and password empty, and click Add.
Now you're all set! Click the Connect to IRC Server button and on we go!
When you've clicked the button a bunch of text will scroll by in the white window. In the textbox in the bottom type "/join #activebass" without the quotes and press enter.
If it says anything about that your nickname is registered and that you must identify it means that someone else already has your nickname, then you must select a different one. Select the File menu and then Options. Enter a different nickname in the Nickname box and press OK.
If you wish, you can register your nickname so that no one else can take it. See this page for more instructions.
